Sometimes the perfect headline pops up out of nowhere, as it did for the “Strings Attached” ad aimed at holiday shoppers. We had a concept deadline of about 45 minutes, and an end-of-day cutoff for making the local newspaper’s weekend edition. The Father’s day ad marries a musical theme with “man’s best friend” by playing off RCA’s familiar mascot, “Nipper,” the little dog who’s more famous for staring into the bell of a victrola, not the rosette of a fine acoustic guitar.
